Last year we added a Conversation with the County's Law Enforcement Leaders to our Conversation series, and it was so well received we decided to make it a permanent addition to the annual series. This year new Howard County Police Chief, Gregory Der, will be joining us, along with Howard County Sheriff, Marcus Harris, and States Attorney, Richard Gibson.
The Howard County Police Department website currently lists the following topics as some of the most prominent issues that face police and the community in this year: Body Worn Cameras; School Resource Officers; Mental Health; Drones; Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion Program; Hate-Bias Incidents and Hate Crimes; Use of Force, Accountability, Training and Outreach.
With growing concerns about these and other complex issues such as evictions, sex trafficking, cyber crimes, and potential legislation about police reform and community relationships, we have designed this event to provide a forum for our members to learn more about the respective roles of each department and have an open respectful conversation with Howard County’s law enforcement leaders in search of positive solutions.
